At the bridge of the failed painter, I stoop and check the sagging timbers before placing one foot, then the other, on this sorry decrepitude. It cracks and pops like a first fleet ship, but the sounds are not ominous; more the rattled wheezing of an invalid friend. I proceed with care, sucking the thumb pricked on its splintery balustrade. Ahead, lies the gate and welltrod path and, branching like spider veins, the merest hints of tracks―overgrown, leading to a wilderness filled with possibilities. I stand and consider. Buttoning my duffel coat—a veteran of the moth wars, I step off the path, and into the weeds.

My photographic skills are very limited.
During my undergraduate years I confess to taking a minor in photography—I can almost hear the collective “oh dear”—well, yes I did scrape a pass…just.
I hated all those rules.
Have I mentioned I’m claustrophobic; not good in a darkroom?
And the chemycals…
All that posing, setting up.
Of course it was much worse when I decided to study lithography.
Why do you have to make every print in an edition exactly the same?
As the juvenile failed painter was booted from art department to art department, they all despaired—me especially that I would never find a way around my short attention span.
And then I got my first digital camera.
Now it doesn’t matter that I don’t use a tripod or plan a shot.
Now it’s ok to take random shots of my feet, someone’s nostrils and my beloved driveby/bikeby/walkby and sometimes run for the lick of your life shots.
Who cares if they’re a bit blurry and a histogram is a dirty word for post menopausal wymen.
All the same is very nice to receive the thumbs up occasionally.
Ta very muchly

What an intriguing photograph, and yes I love the SHOT of red and the composition.
