Noonan cuts, pasts and reassembles pre-existing imagery tapping into the subconscious and engaging with the excised fragments creating moments of abstract connection that are sometimes uncomfortable and yet strangely familiar. Bereft of didactic explanation the viewer becomes both collaborator and scriptwriter arriving at their own interpretations.
"What is missing is sometimes more interesting than what remains.
The laborious collection, adhesion and extraction of meaning are conducive to a state
of intensified aesthetic attention largely guided by intuition and the brain cells lining gut and heart.
The actual brain is not directing, scriptwriting, starring and critiquing—simultaneously.
My work explores hardwired compulsions to find patterns, connections and symbolism
using deliberately happenstance and serendipitous methods". © Noonan
Noonan attended art school acquiring undergraduate and post graduate qualifications in fine art. The collecting and disaggregation of images and objects began as part of a therapeutic self investigation. Amidst the blurring of cultural differences, continual information updates, mish-mashing of imagery and history bloomed an obsession with layered and garbled imagery. A compulsion to create visual cacophony, conflation and confabulation, with the potential to change, be rearranged, added to and taken from. A new sense from nonsense; lies from truths, cobbled from the readily available and inexpensive.
